Janeva Tyree, a versatile artist hailing from Washington, D.C. and now based in Charlotte, NC, infuses her colorful and bold style with influential and emotion-filled themes. With a BFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design, she employs realism blended with abstraction to convey culturally and globally relevant narratives.
Current highlights of her career include employing murals advocating for women's and civil rights in Charleston, Columbia, and Florence, South Carolina; developing story storyboards that were used as visual education tools at Harvard University; delivering a TEDx Talk on"Art’s positive impact on community development and identity" in 2023; and being a key founder of the inaugural Juneteenth Art Fest in Charlotte, NC in 2024.
Tyree's extensive contribution to the field of art expands over a decade as she has developed storyboards, designed graphic logos, curated set designs and community events, published children's illustrations, created three-dimensional art installations, painted murals, and taught arts and culture workshops. Her mission is to create timeless artwork that documents history, breaks conventional chains, and starts conversations which leads to action.
